All these birds are endangered...
Every year some species go extinct
Knowledge about birds|
All over Earth birds are endangered.
All over Earth the reasons are similar.
The habitat = the area where birds can have their nests is shrinking.
The food, they need, is poisoned by man-made chemicals,
or / and the trees they need are used for lumber.
Most Endangered Texas Hill Country Birds
North west of San Antonio lies the southern part of the Texas Hill Country.
For a bird lover there are two of the country's most desirable and elusive birds:
The Golden-cheeked warbler and the black-capped vireo.
Both birds are on the endangered species list:
Problem 1) Urban sprawl
Problem 2) None educated people destroy big old Junipers, called TX Cedar.
Problem 3) Casualties of loss of habitat, too much civilization noise
Problem 4) Cowbird parasitism
Problem 5) The wide spread use of man-made chemicals
As challenging as these birds are to see, once you reach their prime nesting grounds both are surprisingly cooperative.
While walking in a protected Nature preserve you can hear the chattering sound of black-capped vireos. They show with their sounds "that's my territory..." mostly inside a stand of shrub, often crippled oaks. If you want to call it a song, I would describe it as chips, with rolling trills, sharp whistles, squeaks ...
In areas where the preserve is quite and calm and offers old junipers, oaks and black cherry trees, you will be told the same story by a male golden cheeked Warbler. This migratory songbird breeds only in Ashe juniper woodlands in Central Texas. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service now lists the golden-cheeked warbler as endangered. The population is estimated between 9,000 and 28,000.
