Wasser - Water - Aqua
In den letzten 21 Jahren haben wir viele Gespräche geführt, emails verschickt, Vorträge gehalten und unsere Webseiten auf dem neuesten Wissensstand gehalten.
Eine unserer Hauptthemen war die Gefahr steigender Meeresspiegel.
Wärmere Ozeane bringen mehr Polareis zum schmelzen.
Höhere Wassertemperaturen dehnen das Volumen der Weltmeere aus.
Wissenschaftler haben berechnet, dass der Meeresspiegel ca 3m bis 5m in den nächsten Jahrzehnten steigen könnte.

Zusätzliche Volumenvermehrung wird durch die immer stärkere Einschwemmung von Erosionspartikeln erreicht, Material das von den Flüssen in die Weltmeere gespült wird.
Vielen Wissenschaftler sehen mit diesen Veränderungen eine grosse Gefahr für die Meeresströmungen
Umweltbildung Meeresstroemungen: Verschiedene Stroemungen im Meer bestimmen die Temperaturen der angrenzenden Gebiete, aber auch das Wettergeschehen weltweit. Where food can grow. Denken Sie an die dann stark veränderte landwirtschaftliche Nutzung. Jetzige Kornkammern wären dann Taiga mit 8 Monaten Bodenfrost im Jahr.

NASA Wissenschaftler und Klimatologe James Hansen’s Publikationen zeigen deutlich, wie sehr sich das Leben auf dieser Erde verändern würde. Er drängt darauf, das Länder, Regierungen und lokale Behörden sich auf diese Gefahr einstellen, Katastrophenpläne erarbeiten - Pläne für diese zwar langsame aber sicherlich kommende Flut.
Alle Wissenschaftler haben ein grosses Problem:
Politikern sind die nächsten Wahlen wichtiger als langfristige Planungen. Fragen Sie Ihren Politiker, wie er dieses Problem handhaben will BEVOR Sie ihn wählen.
Wie werden wir unseren Kindern in 20 Jahren erklären, was ein Sandstrand ist, warum so viele Menschen vor Hunger sterben oder warum die Karten der Erde dann so verschieden sind verglichen mit den Landkarten unserer Schulzeit?

Als mögliche Lösung hört man von manchen Politikern, dass die Erhöhung der Dämme und Deiche das Problem lösen würde. Wir haben Berechnungen durchgeführt die die ungefähren Baukosten mit über 2 Trilliarden Euro angeben -
wer kann das bezahlen?
Zusätzliche Kosten werden die riesigen Umbaumassnahmen unserer Häfen verursachen, damit Personen und Güter weiterhin auf Schiffe geladen werden können, damit die Ladekräne nicht im Wasser stehen, die Lagerhäuser....
Gegen diese Beträge sind die Zuschüsse an Griechenland "peanuts".

Wenn wir mit Leuten sprechen, die heute ein Strandhaus haben, bekommen wir die Antwort, dass sie dann ihr Strandhaus verkaufen werden -
wer wird dann noch niedrig gelegene Grundstücke am Strand oder Strandhäuser kaufen??
Aber die meisten Strandhausbesitzer denken heute nur daran, wie sie die nächste Sturmflut handhaben können, und danach?
“nach mir die Sintflut”...

Eisschichten schmelzen selbst dann langsam, wenn die Temperaturen schnell steigen. Wie stark der Meeresspiegel bei einer gegebenen globalen Erwärmung steigen wird, kann kaum berechnet werden, da Vergleichzahlen nicht vorliegen.
In den letzten 1000 Jahren war der Kohlendioxidgehalt der Luft noch nie so hoch und wird zu einem Anstieg der Meeresspiegel führen.
Neuen Studien zufolge bestand in der Vergangenheit über die letzten fünf Eiszeitperioden ein enger Zusammenhang zwischen globalen Temperaturen, der Kohlendioxidkonzentration in der Atmosphäre und Meeresspiegeländerungen. Auf die Zukunft mit den aktuellen Klimatrends bezogen könnte dies bedeuten, dass der Meeresspiegel langfristig in den kommenden Jahrtausenden viel stärker ansteigt, als es bisherige Vorhersagen nahelegen.
Die neuen Werte liegen weit über denen, der in Langzeitvorhersagen des vierten Reports des Weltklimarats der Vereinten Nationen (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC) genannt wurden.
