Necessities about life on Earth
Update your knowledge on how life works|
why life works and what you can do to have a better life!
All mass - as much as you can think about -
concentrated in one spot...
Imagine the weight of this spot
The whole mass got so hot: it exploded
Our universe was created!
When there is an explosion, and there are no boundaries all things move in all directions, but are attracted to each other by gravity.
A round shaped object - a ball, a globe, a sphere is created.
Earth is not a perfect sphere. As Earth spins, gravity points toward the center of our planet, and a centrifugal force pushes outward. Water gathers along the equator, Earth is fatter around its waste.
At the equator, you would weigh less than if standing at one of the poles.
Earth has only one natural satellite - the Moon.
All other planets are named after a God - Earth is different.
All other planets in our solar system are less dense than the Earth.
Most of the fresh water on Earth is frozen ice in Antarctica.
Without our magnet field life on Earth would be very different.
You can see: Earth is special!
And it is the only home we have...
Life has worked and works because all these are part of our web of life
because they interact with each other
because they all try to be in balance!
Every single drop of water in our ocean contains huge amounts of life. Microscopic organisms constantly carry out processes that maintain Earth's atmosphere. Without healthy oceans, air, food webs, and life as we know them will change dramatically.|
In the last decades humans have been changing oceans, faster as any scientist thought.
Nitrogen is a key nutrient at the very base of the food chain, both on land and in the ocean. Its availability directly impacts the global marine ecosystem. Many microorganisms feast, grow, and live off of it. Once the microorganisms reach a certain size (or die), they will sink, dragging carbon – in the shape of organic matter – down with them. Once carbon leaves the superficial layers of the ocean and enters deep waters, it will be gone for thousands or even millions of years.|
As it stands today, a healthy functioning carbon sink is probably good news. This carbon pump has been working for thousands of years, helping regulate the Earth’s chemistry and temperature.
Oxygen in Earth's atmosphere was very low before Phytoplankton started to produce oxygen.
Phytoplankton is very, very small. Studying which microscopic organisms transform an invisible gas (such as Nitrogen) is extremely challenging. |
Every microorganism specializes in one single task, transforming one chemical element into another and fueling our planet’s biochemical system.
Changes in microbial populations will inevitably affect Earth’s chemistry. Earth's changing climate is changing oceanic microscopic ecology. Uncountable changes in ocean life will occur. How big the impact of these changes is, and how life on Earth may look like in the future is very difficult to say.
When plants started to move from the oceans on land oxygen levels were rising because of these most important factors:
|You all know that humans cannot live without oxygen. Our|
|is transporting the oxygen to all parts of our body.|
There is more in our air than oxygen.|
Do You know how many substances are in Earth's air?
Air Pollution has become a bigger problem for life on Earth by the day!|
Just close by is the next big threat:
|Part of a water molecule is:|
|Without our sun shining on us life on Earth would change completely:|
Sunspots - caused by intense magnetic activity|
Sun flares can erupt often towards space
sometimes hitting and changing life on Earth
