En estos momentos, en Europa, estamos pasando por los días más fríos que jamás hayamos tenido en la Preservación de la Naturaleza. Muchos animales y plantas serán dañados. Realmente podemos observar cómo esta diferencia de temperatura “creada por el hombre”, está causando en nuestro clima impredecibles cambios del calor al frío.

Severas sequías, diluvios intensos, mucha escarcha, todo es una evidencia científica del Cambio Climático que nos está afectando a nosotros, a nuestros hijos y a nuestros nietos.

Estudio de EPA
Un estudio de EPA muestra concentraciones de químicos tóxicos en los tejidos de peces de los lagos y depósitos en casi todos los 50 Estados de los Estados Unidos. La agencia, por primera vez, ha podido estimar el porcentaje de lagos y depósitos nacionales que contienen peces con niveles potencialmente dañinos de químicos como el mercurio y el PCB. Las concentraciones de mercurio en los peces ha excedido los niveles recomendados por EPA en el 49% de lagos y depósitos nacionales, mientras que los peces tenían concentraciones de PCB “a nivel de preocupación potencial" en 17% de los lagos y depósitos.

Si se queman combustibles fósiles, principalmente el carbón, para producir electricidad, eso es casi la mitad de mercurio en las emisiones aéreas causadas por la actividad humana en U.S.

Según EPA, las mujeres en edad de procrear y los niños, deben seguir el consejo de EPA referido a la comida y el consumo de pescado cuando se lo relaciona con el mercurio. Los resultados después de cuatro años de Estudio Nacional de Residuos Químicos, muestran que el mercurio y el PCB son extensamente distribuidos en U.S. en los lagos y los depósitos. Como usted sabe, durante mucho tiempo nosotros le hemos advertido sobre el efecto de algunos químicos artificiales que pueden dañarlo a usted y a su familia. Según la nueva investigación, los varones americanos de 60 años con las cantidades más altas de Bisphenol A en su orina tienen un 45 por ciento de mayor riesgo de enfermedad cardiovascular que los hombres de la misma edad con exposiciones más bajas.

Bisphenol A se usa principalmente para hacer plásticos y productos que contienen bisphenol y que han estado en los comercios por más de 50 años. Se usa en la síntesis de poliésteres, como un antioxidante en algunos plásticos; también se ha encontrado en el PVC.
Es un ingrediente químico importante en la producción de resinas del Epoxy y en la forma más común de plástico del policarbonato.
El plástico de Policarbonato que es casi inastillable, se usa para hacer una variedad de productos comunes, incluso para el bebé y botellas de agua, equipo de deportes, dispositivos médicos y dentales, rellenos dentales y selladores, lentes oculares, CDs y DVDs, y electrónica para el hogar.
Las resinas de Epoxy que contienen Bisphenol A, se usan como capas dentro de casi todas las latas de comidas y bebidas. También se usó anteriormente como un fungicida. Bisphenol A es un revelador de color preferido en papel de periódicos y en copias de papel.

Debido a BPA (intereses en la salud) en la capa de Epoxy de Japón fue substituido por “PET film”.
El monto de BPA usado en US es el equivalente a seis libras por habitante por año.

Durante octubre de 2009, una organización alemana ambiental solicitó una prohibición de BPA para productos de niños, sobre todo pacificadores (chupetes), y los productos que entran en contacto con el alimento.
En respuesta algún fabricante, voluntariamente, ha quitado del mercado dichos productos para niños (pacifiers-chupetes).


“Estamos complacidos de tener a las autoridades de Lower Colorado River Authority como socios en la próxima fase del Papalote Creek”, dijo Steve Trenholm, CEO, EC&R North America. “Este proyecto se espera que produzca el mejor resultado en los períodos de mayor uso, lo que es verdaderamente un beneficio excepcional”.
La fase II de la granja Papalote Creek eólico se espera que esté en operaciones en 2010 y consistirá en 87 turbinas que proveerán aproximadamente 200 MW de electricidad – suficiente energía para aprovisionar a más de 45,000 hogares. El complejo de viento está a 30 millas al norte de Corpus Christi, en San Patricio County y es la segunda EC&R’s granja de viento en el sur de Texas. “Este convenio continúa con el compromiso de limpieza; el viento como generador de electricidad lo comenzó LCRA cuando participó en el primer proyecto de energía producida por el viento (eólica) en Texas, en 1995”, dijo Tom Mason, Director General de LCRA.
“Estamos muy complacidos de traer más energía renovable para esta generación de recursos que servirá a todos nuestros consumidores de electricidad”.
LCRA adquiere y genera la energía del agua, el viento, el carbón y el gas natural, y vende todo a más de 40 ciudades y cooperativas eléctricas que proveen a más de 1.1 millones de tejanos.
El convenio con E.ON Clima& Renovables, se puede decir que casi triplica la actual capacidad de LCRA para generar energía a partir del viento.
La construcción de la primera parte del Papalote Creek granja de viento comenzó en abril de 2008 y finalizó en noviembre de 2009; en la actualidad consiste de 109 turbinas que proveen aproximadamente 180 MW de energía.
Asimismo, EC&R de Norteamérica recientemente completó la cuarta parte, y la final de la más grande granja de viento del mundo en Roscoe, Texas. La granja de viento sostiene 627 turbinas de viento y una capacidad total de 781.5 MW. Por lo tanto, EC&R, en la actualidad, tiene en Estados Unidos una capacidad de 1,667.5 MW.

Los gobiernos estatales aumentan la eficacia de energía y tratan de reducir las emisiones de gas invernadero asociadas a pesar de la economía inactiva. El descenso económico no redujo los esfuerzos a nivel estatal; algunos estados aún reforzaron sus bríos.

El Gobernador de Nevada, Jim Gibbons
quiere eliminar los rellenados de tierra en todo el estado y, en cambio, reciclar tanta basura como sea posible y usar el resto para generar energía. "Podemos conservar los recursos naturales, crear energía limpia y generar empleos si miramos a los basurales no como sitios donde enterramos nuestra basura, sino como sitios donde comienzan el reciclaje y la recuperación de la energía”.
Gibbons dijo que él planifica proponer una legislación que supliría la industria superflua por un mejor funcionamiento en la recuperación de energía y el reciclaje.
La medida también incluirá varios incentivos, incluyendo disminuciones fiscales, animar a los negocios a localizarse en Nevada y utilizar los materiales reciclados en sus operaciones. Los Estados Unidos podrían cortar las emisiones de gas invernadero por el equivalente de las emisiones totales anuales de Francia, consiguiendo que los americanos hicieran simples cambios en su modo de vida, como realizar el mantenimiento de sus coches con regularidad o aislando sus áticos, según lo demostrado por un estudio.
Si las casas estadounidenses tomaran 17 acciones fáciles de instrumentar, como cambiar su vehículo por uno más económico, secar la ropa sobre un tendedero en vez de un secador, o bajar los termostatos, las emisiones de carbón podrían bajar 123 toneladas métricas por año antes del décimo año; el estudio se ha encontrado en las Actas de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias.
"Esto asciende al 7.4 por ciento de las emisiones totales nacionales - una cantidad ligeramente más grande que las emisiones totales nacionales de Francia”, según demostró el estudio conducido por Thomas Dietz del Estado de Michigan del departamento de la Universidad de sociología y la ciencia ambiental y política.
"Es más importante que reducir a cero todas las emisiones en los Estados Unidos de la refinería del petróleo, el hierro y el acero, e industrias de aluminio, cada una de las cuales está entre los emisores más grandes en el sector industrial”, señaló el estudio. Pero los cambios del modo de vida vienen con una etiqueta de precio mucho más barata y sin ningún gran cambio en la forma de vida de los americanos.
Actualmente, el empleo de energía de las casas de EE UU representa el 38 por ciento de las emisiones de carbón del país, ó 626 millones de toneladas métricas de carbón, un «enorme» 8 por ciento de las emisiones globales y más grande que las emisiones de cualquier país, excepto China”. Para bajar rápidamente esos porcentajes, los investigadores aconsejaron enfocarse más en los cambios conductuales del consumidor y menos sobre los esfuerzos para desarrollar nuevas tecnologías y poner en su sitio a los llamados regímenes comerciales.
Los investigadores agruparon 17 acciones que los americanos podrían tomar para reducir las emisiones de carbón en cinco grupos: la climatización, cambiando a un equipo más eficiente, un buen mantenimiento de sus equipos, ajustando la aplicación - como la temperatura sobre los calentadores de agua - y modificando el uso diario personal.
La acción con el mayor potencial para reducir las emisiones estadounidenses de carbón es cambiar a un vehículo económico. Solo eso, de acuerdo con el estudio, reduciría las emisiones de gas invernadero un poco más del 5 por ciento antes del décimo año, a más de 31 millones de toneladas métricas.
La climatización de las casas, mejorando el aislamiento de ático, sellando o substituyendo ventanas con corrientes de aire y puertas, podría cortar las emisiones de carbón en 21 millones de toneladas métricas. La instalación de aplicaciones eficientes de energía para sustituir aquellas que han alcanzado el final de su tiempo de uso, ahorraría casi 12 millones de toneladas métricas de emisiones de carbón.
Incluso los que, aparentemente, parecen pasos menores, como el hecho de no exceder la velocidad cuando se conduce lejos de un stop, conducir con regularidad manteniendo en condiciones el coche, o bajando en el invierno la calefacción en casa a 68 grados F (20 grados C), podrían ahorrar entre 4 y 8 millones métricos de toneladas en emisiones de carbón.
En Europa, este modo de vivir ha picado fuerte, y los resultados positivos fueron practicados durante décadas. Reducciones de porcentajes similares son posibles en Canadá y Australia, que tienen perfiles de carbón comparables con aquellos de los Estados Unidos.
El estudio catalogó las acciones de la emisión de carbón que se pueden reducir en la casa:

• Comportamiento del conductor
• Secado de ropa en una soga
• Bajar los termostatos
• HVAC [Calefacción, Ventilación y Aire Acondicionado] equipos
• Flujo bajo de las duchas
• Calentadores de agua eficientes
• Temperatura del agua caliente
• Aplicaciones eficientes
• Bajo rodamiento de neumáticos resistentes
• Vehículos
de bajo consumo
• Cambiar los filtros de aire HVAC
• Apagar el Aire Acondicionado
• Mantenimiento del auto como rutina
• Temperatura del lavado
• Reservar la electricidad
