Climate ScenariosClimate is changing life on Earth
Better knowledge = better decisions
200 years ago, a global climate crisis happened:|
The eruption of Mt. Tambora in Indonesia sent huge ash clouds into Earth’s atmosphere and cooled the Earth.
The changing climate caused drastic disruptions of major weather systems: droughts, floods, storms for three full years after the eruption.
200 years ago, the majority of people earned their living in agriculture. Occasional crop failures happened sometimes, but when climate changed weather ruined harvests for three years, many humans could not afford, could not get food anymore.
During this crisis humans had to face three continental-scale consequences:
and the failure of states
When the rice crop failed for multiple years people faced starvation, tens of thousands sold themselves into slavery, desperate parents sold their children in pop-up slave markets.
Across the globe, starving low-income people abandoned their homes, walking all over the country in search for food. Others became beggars in market towns.
Tens of thousands of famine refugees were rejected at the gates of towns. The amount of people searching for food could only be compared with marching armies, the death tolls only with an international war. Governments everywhere closed their borders, newspapers were not allowed to report. Other countries started to grow and export opium for a new booming international demand for opiates; people wanted to flee reality...
Why are we telling You the story which happened 200 years ago?
A great humanitarian crisis is around the corner, and again Earth's changing climate will be the trigger for the extraordinary famine of the 21 century.
200 years ago, 900 million humans have lived on Earth
Today eight times more humans - over 7.5 billion - live on Earth, and about one third = over two and a half billion humans
- will march looking for food.
During this new crisis humans already got a glimpse of the four continental-scale consequences:
Slavery, refugeeism, huge numbers of dead people, and the failure of states.
The Human population history is amazing:
Imagine 1 million people breathing in and out ...
Imagine 10 million people breathing in and out ...
Imagine 100 million people breathing in and out ...
Imagine 1000 million people breathing in and out ...
Nowadays far over 7 billion people want to have food in their mouth ...
