Green Driving - saving money
Green Driving = Save gasoline|
How can you save gasoline/diesel/electricity?
Look below for a list of fuel efficient cars!
Look below for a list of electric vehicles!
Drive the right car!
There are cars with a good mpg, cars that cost you less to drive. And there are gas guzzlers, that cost you a lot of money to drive.
The decision is up to you how much money you want to spend for driving 1000 miles. There are cars which can drive 1000 miles for less than 50 dollar, and others that will rip more than $200 out of your pocket.
Equal with your Dollar spending is the amount of unhealthy gases blown out by your vehicle. You, your children and your grandchildren will pay again for these bad fumes.
How can you save gasoline/diesel/electricity?
1) Check your tire pressure (ask tire shop)
Low tire pressure works like a brake - you need more gasoline/diesel
2) Check how much unnecessary things/weight
you have in your car - every pound raises your gasoline consumption.
3) Check your air filter
An engine needs air to burn the gasoline/diesel
When the air filter is clogged up, the engine has to suck harder and you need more gasoline/diesel
4) Think about how fast you drive:
The faster you drive the more gasoline/diesel/electricity you burn.
Our recycling truck gets 18 mi/gallon when we drive 70 mph
BUT it runs 22 miles a gallon when we drive 53 mph
Sure, it takes more time, but just take your calculator
When you have to drive 35 miles with 70 mph you need 1/2 an hour or 30 minutes.
Now, you want to save gasoline/diesel/electricity and you lower your speed to 53 mph
you will drive 9 minutes longer BUT you save ~$2 on this one short trip!
Think about how much you could lower your monthly bill!!
5) Think about using synthetic oil for your engine
Synthetic oil provides less friction. less friction = less gasoline/diesel usage
6) Think ahead when you drive and you will save gasoline/diesel/electricity.
Don't speed to the next light. When you see it is red, take your foot from the pedal.
Every time you hit the brakes, you destroy energy = your money.
And you burn more gasoline again when you accelerate.
7) Save a lot of gasoline when reducing the time you idle your engine.
"Driving is much more than turning the wheel and welding the pedal to the carpet."
Driving too fast will cost you money in two ways:
Tickets: Drivers ticketed for speeding face fines and costs that could range from $50 to $200 or more depending on where they live.
Add in insurance premium increases and the cost of fast driving becomes even greater.
Gas mileage: Aggressive drivers can spend about one third more on gas than moderate drivers, an increased cost that can add up over time. Drivers should consider using cruise control on long trips to help regulate speed and keep the car under the speed limit. That alone can be a surprisingly efficient gas saver!
The good thing about green driving is that you save a lot of money and

Driving a "green" car is a great way to improve your gas expenses. There are many new car options that are extremely economical without sacrificing style and drive experience
Look at the gas mileage:
Make & model - - - - MPG - how far to go
BMW i3 Giga - - 141* - range 114 mi
Nissan Leaf SL - 118* range 107 mi
Mitsubishi i-MiEV SE 116* range 59 mi
Volkswagen e-Golf 111* range 125 mi
Tesla Model S P85D 110* range 242 mi
Ford Focus Electric 107* range 115 mi
Chevrolet Bolt EV 109* range 238 mi
Kia Soul EV 105* range 93 mi
This is a list of electric vehicles sold in the US.
When we tried to buy one of these very efficient cars, we learned that it is very difficult to find a knowledgeable sales man...
The Ford Focus electric is only sold in California.
Think about checking the range of the electric vehicles. Be careful with the year, 2015 and 2016 models often have a lower range. And don't forget to ask the major of your town where you can charge your car when you go shopping.
We like to drive the Chevrolet Bolt EV. A very smooth riding, one of the best in range, and you can drive with one KW over 3 miles. So here in Central Texas we can drive 100 miles and pay around $2.50.
When you driving an electric car, your driving range can be very different:
• If your car is equipped with a regenerative braking system: USE it and the ECO drive mode to maximize your driving range.
• Since rapid, aggressive acceleration and high speeds require more energy, accelerate (and decelerate) at a smooth pace and drive at a constant, moderate speed.
• Using the AC or heater draws energy from the battery. Pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin while you are still plugged in to avoid using battery power, and maintain moderate cabin temperature when you are on the road. Heating the seat instead of the whole cabin will extend your range too.
• Moving heavy cargo takes energy. Remove unneeded cargo to avoid wasting battery energy. When you do need to haul heavy objects, plan ahead with stops at public charging stations.

Important for every driver:
Be careful when driving on wet, slick roads! When it's raining: Slow down!!
Drive carefully when coming around a turn, when you are skidding, pump the brakes lightly.
The better your tire profile, the safer you drive.
Wrong inflated tires or worn down tires cannot get a grip of the road.
The deeper the water gets, the more dangerous it gets for you (and your car. Puddles can lift your tire and you glide as on ice.
