![]() | Declaration of Independence Join our Sapere Aude Club! We like to use our brain We like to understand We like to ask questions! ".. to see what everyone else has seen, but think what no one else has thought.." Albert Szent-Gyorgyi 1893 - 1986 |
Sapere audeDimidium facti qui coepit habet: sapere audeThis is a short sentence out of the seventh work by Horace, published in the year 20BC. The phrase "sapere aude" comes out of a poem. There are many possibilities to translate this small sentence - this is our translation: "when you start to think, half of the work is done - Have the courage to use your brain.." |
|
Immanuel Kant said: "Enlightenment is "man's release from his self-incurred tutelage", with Sapere Aude being charged to those who would follow this program of individual liberty and knowledge. The Age of Enlightenment is also known as the Age of Reason. When you look at the American Declaration of Independence, the United States Bill of Rights and the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, you will see the ideas and hopes of this new / old philosophy of Enlightenment. In todays life, one might think these ideas and hopes are forgotten. To give their children a good education, parents have to work hard and sacrifice time and a lot of money. Money that not all parents have.. Education only for the wealthy? We know from history, that the age of enlightenment changed Earth to the better. We know from history, that the American dream of -all men are equal- that the Declaration of Independence would not exist without the ideas of Enlightenment. Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, was one of the leaders in the US Enlightenment era. He believed in science-based knowledge, spoke five languages, studied architecture, different religions, and philosophy. He had learned from conversations with other people and from books, and never stopped learning throughout his life. “He who knows best knows how little he knows” was one of his sayings. Another man supporting Enlightenment was Immanuel Kant. Asked in 1784 about the meaning he answered: “Enlightenment is man’s emergence from his self-incurred immaturity.” We strongly believe people should start the “New Age of Enlightenment”. With today’s technical possibilities, people who adopt these life principles based on science, which require life-long learning, would have a better life, would have more success, would be leaders that can help mankind to deal with the coming changes and challenges. End of August 2012, a great man, engineer and teacher died. He stated in 1969: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" Neil Armstrong was right, at his time mankind was exploring, learning, trying to find out what’s beyond… Shouldn’t we listen to these great men? Shouldn't we try to understand the Laws of Nature? If we care about our future, shouldn’t we constantly learning and updating our knowledge for a better future for ourselves and our children? Who is with me? Would you work with us to bring this idea back to life? We think this idea has to become powerful again because the future of our Earth, because the future of our children and grandchildren depends on better knowledge, better understanding!! Another well educated man stated: "Life is water dancing to the tune of macro molecules!" Please join our Think Tank and give us your thoughts! Affordable education on demand! Sapere aude! There are many famous humans who agreed to the idea Sapere Aude to the values of Enlightenment: * Johann Gottfried Herder Germany * Paul Heinrich Dietrich von Holbach Germany * David Hume Scotland * Maria Theresia Austria * Friedrich II. Prussia * Joseph II. Austria * Immanuel Kant Germany * Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock Germany * Ignacy Krasicki Poland * Julien Offray de La Mettrie France * Eggert Ólafsson Iceland * Gotthold Ephraim Lessing Germany * John Locke England * James Madison * Moses Mendelssohn Germany * Montesquieu France * Thomas Paine England * Jean-Jacques Rousseau France * Benjamin Franklin * Thomas Jefferson * Voltaire France |
