How to buy solar energy devicesMore and more people are interested in buying a solar photovoltaic PV system.
With price offers below $3 a watt installed and with local and federal help, and loans
Going Solarusing renewable energy becomes affordable!
Below you find a few tips what you should think about, BEFORE you order a solar photovoltaic system:
A) Before you ask a solar installer to come to your house, you should check several things and be able to answer specific questions. There are different types of solar products, some will fit your needs better than others. Checking what type of solar product is best for you helps you finding the best installer to meet your needs.
B) How to find an installer
Ask your electricity service provider.
Type in solar, your town, and maybe sale into a search engine. Look for the company that offers the type of solar you are looking for, look for examples. Ask for a free estimate. You should ask more than one company. Three quotes are a good basis to make a final decision on an installer.
C) Questions you should ask your installer
#) Years of experience installing solar PV?
#) Installations already finished (look at or ask owner, references)
#) What license or certification
#) What type of warranty will you get
#) What maintenance is required
#) Who is in charge of the electrical work
Does the electrician have insurance
Take no risk, a licensed contractor knows what regulations, what safety devices are needed. Often your local energy provider will only give you a solar rebate if your contractor is licensed. Installers must be certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).
To get a solar energy rebate, often a long time warranty from the manufacturer is required. Inverters should have a long time warranty too. Your system properly working conditions should be guaranteed for at least one year by the installer.
D) Apply for local and Federal rebates
Your solar installer will work with you to apply for the local rebate and Federal tax rebate for your solar installation.
Often you can either subtract the rebate from the total cost and take the 30% tax credit on the net amount OR you can take the 30% tax credit on the entire cost and pay taxes on the rebate as income.
Ask your tax adviser to help you what the preferable solution is best for you.
E) Think about a solar loan if the upfront cost do not fit in your budget.
There are different lending institutions with different offers.
We get information about installed 4 KW systems where the owners have applied for local rebates and federal tax credit, getting a solar system with payments below $60 per month.
Additionally, think about your energy bill. It will be lower contributing substantially to making loan payments.
BSB uses different kind of sun catching devices.
These are our sun-tracking solar panels PV.
Trackers are used to minimize the angle of incidence between the incoming light and a photo-voltaic panel, increasing the amount of energy harvested by solar panels by 23%.
